Calling all the candle collectors and wellness guru’s! This one is for people who just love a good candle – or two! Or those people who see every aroma as a form of relaxation to their senses and to their body. Max Candle Co. is the place for you!
Just opening in the Roseland Community last year, Markell Sylvain has struck the neighborhood with a more holistic approach to the home fragrance industry with Max Candles Co. His muse is aspired through his mother, Pauline Sylvain, who found a passion in hand-pouring candles after her brother passed away. He humbly started his business by doing pop-up shops at different locations for five years.
Now, the South Chicago community has been blessed by Max Candles Co by offering essential oils, scented candles, and home accessories such as candle warmers to go with your new scent!

Each candle and essential oil provides the mind relaxation, clarity, and overall a more positive outlook on your day. Max Candles Co. has something for every need. Whether you enjoy more deep scents, or maybe you like something more fresh and fruity, every candle is made with all-natural scented oils and clean, non-toxic Soy Wax which will keep that lovely smell lasting longer. They even offer a discovery subscription of candles where you get three curated candles straight from the owner delivered to your door every month. That way there’s always a new candle in rotation and you;re always trying something new. Consider it a present from your past self!
Some of their more popular scents include their Jamaican Me Crazy and their Peppermint and Eucalyptus scent which comes in candle form and as a fragrance mist making it perfect for any space! You truly cannot go wrong with any scent because all customers end up leaving happy and more relaxed than ever.
The fun is just beginning, if you’re looking for a new hobby you can sign up for their candle making classes which will teach you all the ins and outs of handpouring your own candles. The best part is that Max Candle Co. offers options for everyone. If you’re in the Chicago area, you can attend an in-person class. For those who can’t make it to the store, or you’re just a homebody at heart, a virtual candle making class is also available, ensuring candle connoisseurs can get the full experience from anywhere!
Honoring their roots. Max Candle Co. maintains community engagement through pop-up shops and other brand events. Currently, you can visit their pop-up location in Macy’s every Thursday throughout March. They also participate in various local small business events, details of which are always available on their website. At the moment they are offering free crochet classes every third Saturday of the month. Just bring you, your yarn, and a hook!
Max Candle Co. has invigorated South Chicago and its residents through its commitment to uplift the small businesses in the Roseland community. They frequently collaborate with and highlight other local businesses, fostering positive activity and inspiration in the area.

“Max Candle Co. is the premier location for hand poured candles on the south side. This family owned business has been doing amazing things in the community and I’m so happy to support. The candles smell amazing and the variety of products in the MakerSpace is fantastic. Show your support!” — Naamonde Williams-Lega, Google Review
As Max Candle Co. continues to grow, one thing remains clear: their mission to uplift, inspire, and connect will always be at the heart of the brand. When you light a Max Candle, let it be a cue to embrace peace, slow down, and reset. Ultimately, the brand reminds us that comfort can be sparked by even the smallest flame, highlighting the importance of life’s little luxuries.
